Customise Login Screen Messaging (Optional)

Customise Login Screen Messaging (Optional)

Info
Summary

targetconnect allows Key User(s) to display custom messages on the login screens seen by graduates and organisation users. This is useful for sharing important updates - such as password change reminders, scheduled maintenance notices, or welcome messages - directly on the sign-in page. The login text fields also support basic HTML formatting, giving you flexibility over how your message appears.

Before you begin

To complete this task, you will need Key User(s) access to the Maintenance area of your targetconnect instance.

Step-by-step instructions

Setting login text for graduate users

  1. Navigate to Maintenance > System Settings > Business Settings > Student & Graduate Settings.
  2. Scroll down to locate the field labelled Alumni Login Text.
  3. Enter or update your message in the text field.
  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Setting login text for organisation users

  1. Navigate to Maintenance > System Settings > Business Settings > Organisation Settings.
  2. Scroll down to locate the field labelled Organisation Login Text.
  3. Enter or update your message in the text field.
  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Using HTML formatting

The login text fields support basic HTML, which means you can add formatting and hyperlinks to your messages. Here are some common examples:

What you wantHTML to useResult
Bold text<b>Important notice</b>Important notice
Italic text<i>Please note</i>Please note
A hyperlink<a href="https://example.ac.uk">Visit our site</a>A clickable link to the specified URL
Line break<br>Starts a new line within your message

Tips and best practices

  • Keep your login messages short and to the point. Users typically scan the login page quickly, so a concise message is more likely to be read.
  • Use bold text sparingly to draw attention to the most important part of your message, such as a deadline or action required.
  • Remember to remove or update temporary messages (e.g. maintenance notices) once they are no longer relevant, so the login screen stays current.
  • Test your message by viewing the login page after saving changes, to check that any HTML formatting displays as expected.
  • If you are including a hyperlink, make sure the link text clearly describes where it leads - for example, "Reset your password here" rather than "Click here".
