Introduction
Info
In 2024, the targetconnect Link opportunity distribution network delivered over 15,000 opportunities to member institutions. In addition, employers posted more than 12,000 opportunities directly to your platforms. That’s a significant volume for your vacancy management team to review and moderate.

To help streamline this process, we’re introducing Smart Filters and Auto-Approval features—designed to reduce manual checks and save your team valuable time.

With these tools, your team can focus on what matters most, while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance

Smart Filters

We know every institution has opportunities or organisations they choose not to promote, whether that’s entire sectors or roles that don’t align with your institution’s areas of focus or your students’ interests.
Smart Filters automatically reject organisation profiles and opportunities before they reach your moderation queue, saving your team from manually rejecting the same accounts and roles again and again.

How Smart Filters work

  1. Your Key Account Manager sets up filters behind the scenes based on your supplied criteria.
  2. Filters can be applied to both organisation registrations and opportunities postings.
  3. Any profile or posting that matches your filters is automatically rejected.

Smart Filter criteria

Smart filters are available for the following fields:

Opportunities:
  1. Salary
  2. Type
  3. Location
  4. Sector

Organisations:
  1. Organisation sector

The smart filters can be applied to your ‘local’ registrations and postings (i.e, where an organisation presents directly to your platform) or to profiles and postings distributed to you through the Link network.

At the bottom of this article – and also available via the separate tabs – you’ll find a list of central values that can be selected when using Smart Filters.

These lists are designed to help you decide which items you'd like to include or reject, depending on your filtering needs. Feel free to refer to it as a guide when setting up your preferences.

Setting up the filters

To set up these filters, please contact your Key Account Manager and let them know the values from your mappings that you would like to use on the basis of your rejections. Your Key Account Manager will then work with you to implement the filters and ensure they do not significantly impact the number of organisations and jobs that you receive.

What happens next?

Jobs and organisations that match any of your smart filters will be automatically rejected. For example, if a job's salary is listed as 'Competitive' or it belongs to a sector that you do not accept, it will be rejected.

Viewing rejected jobs and organisations

You will still be able to view jobs and organisations that were rejected, as the roles and organisations will still be sent to you. You will always be able to see the jobs that have been rejected due to your filters. If an organisation doesn't meet your Smart Filters, then any jobs sent by that organisation will also be rejected. It will still be possible to update the status of these jobs/organisations once they have been rejected should you wish to re-register the organisation for example.

What communication do employers receive when a profile or role is rejected?

When an organisation profile or opportunity is rejected by a Smart Filter, the organisation contact isn’t left guessing why. They automatically receive a clear email notification explaining why their submission didn’t meet your institution’s requirements.

Example email content:
“Your opportunity ‘Graduate Marketing Executive’ was rejected because University Name does not accept jobs where the salary is listed as ‘Competitive’.”
This ensures employers are informed why their submission was unsuitable and what changes might be necessary if they wish to repost.

Auto-Approvals for targetconnect Link opportunities

Every year, the average institution receives 12,000+ opportunities through the Link network. That’s a lot of roles to review… The good news is that these roles are already moderated by GTI’s expert team before they reach your platform. This saves your vacancy management staff from repeating the same checks and ensures only quality opportunities are shared with your students.

What GTI checks

Our moderation team carries out a rigorous set of checks across both organisations and opportunities, including:

Organisation checks:
  1. Companies House number validated to ensure it matches the organisation name and registered address.
  2. Charities Commission number checked (if relevant).
  3. Website URL reviewed to confirm it is accessible and the website is aligned to the business.
  4. Contact details verified to ensure the email address matches the website domain.
  5. Organisation description reviewed for accuracy and clarity.
  6. Formatting – ensure all headings use H2, bullet points are correctly applied, block capitals and underlining are removed, language is inclusive and non-discriminatory, all body text is set to paragraph style, and hyperlinks (including direct email addresses) are removed.

Opportunity checks:
  1. Organisation contact details checked for correct domain.
  2. Application link tested to ensure it works and leads to a suitable destination.
  3. Job type cross-checked against the job description for accuracy.
  4. Job description reviewed for discriminatory words/phrases (e.g., “strong,” “energetic”), reformatted where needed, and checked for sponsorship and right-to-work accuracy.
  5. Salary validated to ensure it is above minimum wage.
  6. Job sector matched against the job description for accuracy.
  7. Formatting – ensure all headings use H2, bullet points are correctly applied, block capitals and underlining are removed, all body text is set to paragraph style, and hyperlinks (including direct email addresses) are removed.
For the full vacancy handling policy, see: GTI Advertising Handling Policy

How auto-approval will work for you:

  1. Employer registers or posts an opportunity via targetconnect Link.
  2. GTI moderation team completes the standard checks above.
  3. If the role passes, it is flagged as ‘Verified’ and is automatically posted to your platform (with Smart Filters picking up any of the roles you don’t want to receive).
  4. If a role passes GTI checks but may not meet all university standards, it is flagged and sent to your Pending queue.
  5. To determine when an opportunity should be flagged, we surveyed universities on their vacancy handling policies and identified areas where requirements vary. If an opportunity meets GTI’s handling policy but falls into one of these “grey areas,” it is flagged instead of auto-approved.

Criteria for flagged roles

  1. Competitive or undisclosed salary
  2. Defence/weapons, gambling, or tobacco involvement
  3. Requires upfront payments or exit fees
  4. Duplicates of the same opportunity (location variants only)
